Colouring: The secret to de-stress

Hello everyone!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably noticed that adult colouring book are all the rage right now.  I wanted to see for myself what the fuss is about, so yesterday I picked up two adult colouring books.  Colouring is not just an activity for keeping kids busy, it has also been shown to have stress-reducing benefits.

These are my colouring books; 2 Craft Sensations (by Grafix) Creative Colouring For Adults.  Each book has 160 pretty designs to be coloured in.  I'll make sure to find some time to start colouring these fun designs asap.

Similar books:
Creative Colouring Personalised Art Therapy Book • £35
Botanicals Colouring In Book For Grown Ups • £8.99
Enchanted Forest Colouring Book For Grown Ups • £9.95
Fantastic Cities Colouring Book • £10.99
Tropical Wonderland Colouring Book For Grown Ups • £9.99
Secret Garden Colouring Book For Grown Ups • £9.95

Supposedly, adult colouring books can help you relax and unwind after a long, stressful day.  Some people even report sleeping better when colouring before bedtime.  I hope this works for me as well since I suffer from insomnia.  I'm hoping colouring will be relaxing and de-stressing.  It's definitely a fun activity that takes me back to childhood!  Between my hula hooping workouts and now colouring, I'm definitely in touch with my inner child.  Or maybe it's because, as they say, Geminis never grow up! : )

If you don't want to buy any books you can find free colouring pages online and you can also colour on you smartphone or tablet with  Colorfy (free app).  You can download it from iTunes or GooglePlay.

DIY: Micro-dermabrasion paste

Hello everyone!

I've been using baking soda to exfoliate my skin for years, in fact Scrub your face with sodium bicarbonate! was one of my first blog posts back in May, 2011!  Today I want to give you a simple DIY recipe for homemade microdermabrasion using baking soda.  Let's get started!

Ingredients:
Method:

Mix baking soda and raw honey in a small container (or you can use coconut oil instead).  Combine to form a paste-like consistency and add one drop of tea tree oil.

How to use:
  • Wash your face with warm (not hot) water to open up the pores.
  • Apply the mixture to your face and neck.  Use your fingertips to massage gently but firmly in a circular motion.  Do this for 3 to 5 minutes to remove the layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin.
  • Rinse with cool water and pat dry.  You may notice some redness but this is normal.
  • Using a cotton ball, apply rose water to your face and then moisturise with a facial serum or your favourite moisturiser.
  • Repeat once or twice a week for best results.
Note: Since baking soda is alkaline, it may upset your skin’s natural pH.  Using rose water after the treatment will help you restore your skin to its natural pH.  Use a moisturiser with SPF in it if you’re going to spend a lot of time in the sun after you exfoliate your skin.

If you use this DIY  microdermabrasion paste, let me know your thoughts!

Shhh... It's a beauty secret!

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share one of my beauty "secrets" with all of you.  For the past four or five months, I've been using Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm as a primer.  Primers are meant to help your make-up apply smoother and stay on all day. (Read Primer 101)

The online beauty community has been raving about this product for a while, and now I am too.  The trend was started by YouTube beauty vlogger NikkieTutorials, who uploaded a video in March 2015 talking about the product.

Using this as a primer is a great idea.  Since the product contains glycerin, it helps make-up stay on much better than traditional primers.  For more information about glycerin, read this post: Vegetable glycerin for glowing skin!  truly believe that this balm is a much better primer than the actual silicone-based primers I was using before

If you are looking for an affordable primer that works, try this.  You will not regret it!  Tell me, what is your favourite primer?

As you may have noticed, my blog just got a makeover.  I've spent the last couple of days re-designing my blog.  The old theme felt too cluttered, so I changed it!

I really like the way it turned out.  I might get bored with it again, who knows.  But for now, I love it.
Do any of you remember the way this blog used to look a few years ago?  Take a look:

Welcome April | 10 things I love about springtime

Hello everyone!

My favourite month of the year is December, because I'm obsessed with Christmas.  However, as soon as the Christmas season is over, I can't wait for spring.  I'm not a fan of the cold winter weather and that's why I love April and May.  March can still be a bit too chilly for me! ;)

Did you pull any pranks this April Fools' Day?

These are ten things I love about springtime:
  1. Open windows
  2. Hooping outside
  3. Blooming flowers
  4. Warmer temperatures
  5. Longer days
  6. Sundresses and sandals
  7. Pastels and bright colours
  8. The beach; before it gets too crowded
  9. Picnics
  10. Evening walks

Enjoy the good weather!
