Acne update | DIY: Honey and Aloe vera mask

Hello everyone!

Recently my acne has been flaring up again, which is very strange considering that I've been on a 100% dairy-free diet for a few months.
Can food allergies cause acne? ]  I haven't consumed dairy products in years, other than milk chocolate and mozzarella on my pizza, which I now removed from my diet.

If you want to know more about dairy-free diet, check out  Go Dairy Free and  Got the facts on Milk? (The Milk Documentary)

Anyway, to heal my acne as fast as possible, my go-to DIY is a honey and Aloe vera mask.  This is a really simple face mask recipe; check it out!

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon organic raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure, cold-pressed organic Aloe vera gel

Method:
  1. Stir the honey and Aloe vera together and apply over your face.
  2. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Rinse off.

In my experience, the Aloe vera gel prevents the honey from melting and dripping all over your clothes.  Aloe soothes inflammation and calms your skin, perfect for those with sensitive, irritated skin.

I love honey and Aloe but when I don't have the time to apply a mask and relax, I reach for my DIY blemish killer that I always keep in my fridge.  What is your go-to emergency acne treatment?  Let me know in the comment section below.

Dresses of Girl | Bridesmaid Dresses

Hello everyone!

Choosing bridesmaid dresses is a crucial yet stressful part of every wedding.  What looks great on one of your bridesmaid might not work for the other ladies.  Instead of stressing out about finding one dress and shade that will fit everyone, why not let them all look a little different?

Bridesmaid style has come a long way in the last few years.  Gone are the days of everyone wearing the same dress.  More and more brides are letting their bridesmaids choose their own dresses because they want their maids to feel good about what they're wearing.  And it's a fact of life that not everyone has an identical body type.  Today, brides are mixing it up by having bridesmaids wear dresses with different styles, fabrics, and colours that make it way more interesting and fun.  This trend highlights each individual woman's style and ensure she is wearing a dress that makes her feel great.  Furthermore, mismatched bridesmaids dresses bring your wedding attire into the 21st century.

Just because you're a bridesmaid, it doesn't mean that you have to look plain.  DressesofGirl has a large collection of simple but elegant bridesmaid dresses, which will help you channel your inner fashionista with an attention grabbing ensemble.  From mini and simple, to long and glamorous; you are sure to find a special bridesmaid dress among the rainbow of colours and stunning styles at DressesofGirl.

Take a look at some of my favourite bridesmaid styles:

Dresses 4, 5 and 6.

Have a great weekend!

Dresses of Girl | Wedding Dresses

Hello everyone!

The wedding day is said to be the most important day in a woman's life.  It could easily be said that a wedding gown is the single most important piece of clothing a woman can wear!  Nevertheless, finding the perfect wedding dress can also cause a lot of stress and worry.

In today's post I want to introduce you to an online boutique that can relieve you from the stress of dress shopping.  I was invited by Hannah of Dresses of Girl to check out their site and I was very impressed with their vast collection of quality dresses at unbelievable prices.  If you're searching for a gorgeous bridal dress for your big day, DressesofGirl is your one-stop wedding dress online store.

Here are a few of my personal favourite wedding dresses:

Dresses 1, 2 and 3.

Dresses 4, 5 and 6.

Dress number five is hands down my absolute favourite!  The dresses I like are all vintage inspired and somewhat conservative.  However, if your style is more sexy, elegant or romantic, you will certainly find (at least) a dress that suits your taste.  You can check out many more wedding dresses from Dresses of Girl; here.

All dresses are custom-made and hand-sewn by professional tailors.  They ship worldwide and also offers expedited shipping.  Aside from worldwide shipping, I love that the company offers a reward points program.  These points can later be used as funds to repurchase.  For more wedding dresses and other special occasion dresses, visit Dresses of Girl's website here.

You can also follow Dresses of Girl on Facebook, Google+ and Tumblr.

I hope you enjoyed this post.  What did/will your wedding dress look like?

Tell Unilever: Remove cancer-causing chemicals from beauty products

Hello everyone!

I've blogged about the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics before; here and here.  This time they want us to tell Unilever that cancer-causing chemicals have no place in beauty products...

Unilever is the third largest personal care products company in the world, generating billions in beauty sales annually.  Their beauty products are considered trustworthy, but there is nothing trustworthy about cancer-causing chemicals in personal care products!

Unilever can and should do better.  Tell Unilever that cancer-causing chemicals have no place in your family’s beauty and personal care regime.
Please take a moment to sign the petition!  Act now to get cancer chemicals out of Unilever beauty products!

Fact or Fiction? - Beauty myths, debunked! #2

Hello everyone!

Today I have another Fact or Fiction? post for you.  It’s time to test your beauty knowledge, again!  Find out which of these commonly held beliefs are true and which ones are just myths.

1. You can shrink your pores.

Fact or Fiction? Fiction.

At least, mostly fiction.  For instance, an egg-white mask can minimize your pores, but only temporarily.  You can't make pores physically smaller.

2. Wearing polish will turn your nails yellow.

Fact or Fiction? Fact.

Wearing dark polish can make your fingernail and toenails appear yellowish because the polish stains your nails.  Don’t worry though; you can use one of these 3 methods to whiten yellow nails

3. Wearing high heels can give you varicose veins.

Fact or Fiction? Fact.

The pressure caused by standing up, especially in high heels, can lead to varicose veins.

4. Crossing your legs can give you varicose veins.

Fact or Fiction? Fiction.

Standing up, especially with high heel shoes puts pressure on your legs, not sitting with your legs crossed, and it’s that pressure that can cause varicose veins.

5. Cocoa butter or olive oil can get rid of stretch marks.

Fact or Fiction? Fiction.

Stretch marks  are caused by tearing of the dermis, which over time may diminish, but will not disappear completely.  Cocoa butter and olive oil can’t penetrate that deep into the skin.

6. A beer rinse will give you thicker hair.

Fact or Fiction? Fact.

Using beer as a final rinse will make your hair thicker until the next  wash, but it will also make you smell like a pub.  Yikes!

Hypoallergenic means you won't have any negative reactions to the product.

Fact or Fiction?

Read my previous Fact or Fiction? post to find out!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Life update: I'm an aunt!

Hello everyone!

On Sunday the 16th of August, my sister-in-law gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Michela (pronounced: mee-KE-lah)!  She entered this world with a full head of dark hair and big, inquisitive eyes.   The whole family is head over heels in love with the new addition.

My multi-talented mum (and first time "nanna") hand-made a whole lot of personalised favors for family and friends!  Seriously, how cute are these?

Michela is 3 weeks old today.  I'm so happy, proud and excited to be an aunt!
